Over the past few days we have been making some important upgrades to WinDOT on the Web Government Regulations. Here’s what we’ve done.
First, to make sure all works correctly on your computer, please clear your browser history/cache, close the browser, then restart and login to WinDOT on the Web. The easiest way to do this in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Google Chrome is to press CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE all at once and then select what you want deleted.
On to the updates.
Your browser may be opening WinDOT in the Tablet Mode. This is where there is a large content area with menu icons down the left side or across the bottom of the screen. This is what WinDOT looks like on a table or smart phone.
If you are on a desktop or laptop computer and want the more traditional two pane view (Desktop Mode, Table of Contents on the left and Content on the right) just press CTRL– (minus) to change the screen resolution until you get what you like. To go back to Tablet mode, press CTRL+ (plus).
You’ll notice there is a bit of a different look. We’ve added a non-scrolling footer at the bottom of the content pane. This will help you identify where you are when to the topic header scrolls off the page. The function items are a bit more streamlined and there is a new search icon on the left side in desktop mode.
We’ve improved the Search function. Now search results are displayed in the left column and when clicked the content shows on the right. No more using the “Back” button to return to the results, just scroll down to the next one you want to view.
To maximize the screen to see more content and fewer browser bars (which can really clog up the view) use F11 to toggle between full screen and normal view.
Where did the Home button go? Now if you click on the Header title (Part 195. Transportation of Hazardous Liquids by Pipeline, for example) it will take you to the home (start) page for those regulations.
Similarly, clicking on the WinDOT icon in the top left will take you to your Document Access page.
Finally, under the hood, we’ve cleaned up some of the old HTML code and stuff, which should help with performance.
We will be applying these updates to the Standards as they are updated.
